ABSTRACT. The moss diversity on the territory of the former USSR is analyzed on the basis of recently published check-list. Oceanic sides of Eurasia and mountain areas appears to be much more rich in species number, than continental lowlands, especially in comparison with quite a different situation in vascular plants. Specifics of regions of the former USSR are demonstrated and the total species diversity is expanded on 9 main geographic elements, and their significance is evaluated.
