ABSTRACT. The monospecific East Asian genus Sasaokaea was traditionally considered as a member of the Amblystegiaceae, or sometimes Neckeraceae. Analysis of nr ITS and chloroplastic trnL-F data both indicate its position in the Leskeaceae. The morphological characters supporting this placement are discussed.
