ABSTRACT. A new species of Limoniidae gnat, Hoplolabis (Hoplolabis) rara sp. n., is described and illustrated based on the male imago from East Kazakhstan. The males of the new species are distinguished from all males of the subgenus Hoplolabis by structural details of the hypopygium, particularly by shape and size of dorsal gonostyle and paramere. An illustrated description of the male of the Holarctic species Hoplolabis (Hoplolabis) asiatica (Alexander, 1918) is also provided based on material from East Kazakhstan.
