ABSTRACT. The results of the experiments showed that inoculation per os of Galleria mellonella (Linnaeus, 1758) larvae with inactivated cells of Gram-positive bacteria of the genus Bacillus Cohn, 1872 and Gram-negative bacteria of the genus Escherihia Castellani & Chalmers 1919 leads to structural changes in the hemocyte population after 12 hours. Changes in the structure of the cell population were manifested by an increase in the number of immunocompetent cells, granulocytes, and a decrease in the number of prohemocytes and оenocytoids. This was accompanied by a decrease in the total number of hemocytes and suppression of phenoloxidase activity in the hemolymph of G. mellonella larvae, but did not affect cell survival. It is likely that these changes are related to the recognition of microbial components retained after inactivation by pathogen-associated receptors and the interaction between these receptors and microbial components, resulting in the production of mediator molecules that activate cellular immune responses. However, to verify this hypothesis, the role of hemocytes in activating signaling pathways and altering the physiological state of the host needs to be further investigated.
