ABSTRACT. The question of the type species of taxon of the generic rank Eulasia Truqui, 1848 is considered. Chapin [1938] designated Amphicoma papaveris Sturm, 1843 as type species for the taxon, but later Medvedev [1960] accepted Scarabaeus arctos Pallas, 1781, as type species, and this designation, being invalid, became commonly used. Baraud [1990] described subgenus Rudeulasia Baraud, 1990 with the type species Amphicoma papaveris Sturm, 1843, which makes the name Rudeulasia Baraud a junior objective synonym of Eulasia Truqui. In modern literature, the interpretation of Medvedev and Baraud is accepted, therefore, direct application of the provisions of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature may lead to confusion in the nomenclature of the genus Eulasia Truqui, 1848. To preserve the stability of the nomenclature, it is provided to apply to the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature for the conservation of modern prevailing usage.
