ABSTRACT. Observations on the biological characteristics of the corn bark-beetle Pagiocerus frontalis (Fabricius, 1801) were conducted in its native range and the possibility of its spread across Europe was analyzed. Under laboratory conditions, the population growth dynamics of the pest’s offspring on corn kernels were tracked, and experiments were conducted to study the environmental factors limiting the pest’s distribution in northern latitudes.

KEY WORDS: Trophic specialization, carpophagous insect, corn bark-beetle, pest of corn and avocado.
