ABSTRACT. The genus Conopia Hübner 1819, stat.rev. is restored from synonyms of the polyphyletic genus Synanthedon Hübner, 1819. The genus comprises four Palaearctic species, which are externally well separated into two species groups, namely the C. stomoxiformis-group with three species, namely C. stomoxiformis (Hübner, 1790), comb.n., C. amasina (Staudinger, 1856), stat.n. et comb.n., and C. levantina (de Freina et Lingenhöle, 2000), comb.n. et stat.nov., and the C. spheciformis-group with C. spheciformis ([Denis et Schiffermüller], 1775), comb.n. A morphological description and differential diagnosis are given. It is indicated that the food plants of the caterpillars of the genus include representatives of only two families: Betulaceae and Rhamnaceae.
