ABSTRACT. Two species of ampharetid polychaetes have been found in material collected during sampling from the terminal lobes of the Congo deep-sea fan (Gulf of Guinea) (Congolobe Project, IFREMER, France). They are described using light and scanning electron microscopy. Ampharete gebruki sp.n. differs from other Ampharete by having three instead of four pairs of branchiae and combination of 14 thoracic chaetigers, 11 thoracic and 13 abdominal uncinigers. Neosabellides hydrothermalis previously was known only from Pacific seeps as the only species of the genus Grassleia. Careful comparison of external morphology reveals no differences in genus-level characters from Neosabellides. It is therefore proposed to accept Grassleia as a junior synonym of Neosabellides.
